Men's Club Championships

The final round of the Men's Club Championships was played last Saturday 22 November at the Rowville course.  Steven Ellis began the day as leader but couldn't get his round going, finishing in third position on 149.  Kirk Tuaiti, four time defending Champion, made four birdies however these were offset with 8 bogies to finish runner-up with 148.  James Murto made double boogey on the 16th hole, however steadied himself brilliantly birding 17 and 18 for a final round 71 to be crowned Men's Club Champion with 144.  

In B Grade, Anthony Monaghan played two steady rounds to finish in second position with 171.  Paul Spriggs, first round leader, continued his great form to win the B Grade title with 166.  

It was a close finish in C Grade with Zac Hunt finishing second on 180.  Wayne Owen was victorious in C Grade with 179.      

The Captain's Trophy awarded to the best overall Nett was won by Maxim Bowring with 135 Nett on a countback from Anthony Monaghan.

Ladies Club Championships

World Cup of Golf Day 

The World Cup of Golf was played last Sunday at the Rowville course with 108 players consisting of members and guests, representing 9 countries.  Commencing in 2022 organised by Churchill-Waverley members, the event has become a staple on the club's fixture with participants enjoying golf, camaraderie and raising funds for charity.  Teams Zimbabwe and Australia were joint winners from Malaysia in 3rd place.    

Ladies Golf News

We would like to welcome our new Lady Golf Members, Carmel Kenny, Daisy Oh and Cathy Bu.  We hope you will be able to join us on a Wednesday morning.

I understand there was some confusion about whether lady members are allowed to use a cart without a medical certificate during the club championships.  The only restriction on use of carts – applies to adverse course conditions. There is no requirement to provide a medical certificate to play golf in any club competition, including major events.

The second round of the Ladies club championships was rained off this week, so it will be amended to a 36-hole competition, with the final round being played on Wednesday 3 December.

Sincere apologies for getting the star medallist date wrong in a recent newsletter.  The playoff for Star Medallist of 2025 will be played on Wednesday 3 December.  The contenders are: Roberta McQuillan, Tania Walsh, Iwona Wasilewski, Kaylene Ellis (X2), Kaye Pittman, PK Singh, Veena Mali, Jothi Naidoo, Saras Sanjappa.  All the best for a good game on the day.

Many lady members entered the Gippsland Ladies Golf Classic earlier in the month.  The weather was appalling on the 11th, and not many people finished on that day. Didn’t stop them having a great time, catching up with each other and old friends from other clubs.

Bowls News

Christmas Lunch for bowlers, partners and guests is on Wednesday 17th December at 12.00 Noon.  The cost is $32.50 pp.

A sign-up sheet in the Spikes Bar has the menu information. Bookings and payments (at the office) to be made by Wednesday 10th November.

Victorian Junior Masters 

The 31st Annual Victorian Junior Masters will be played at Churchill-Waverley (Rowville) from Friday 28 - Sunday 30 November. Former champions include Jason Day, Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman and Yuka Saso.  An exceptional field with interstate and international participants has been assembled again with 28 players on a scratch or plus handicap.

Easten League Seniors Pennant

Hi everyone

I am calling for expressions of interest for senior golfers to play in the eastern league pennant competition. Games will commence 30 January 2026 and conclude on 13 March 2026.  You must be 55 years or older.  We require two teams of 8 players plus reserves.  Courses played are Eastwood, Box Hill, Gardiners Run, The Heritage, Yering Meadows, Eastern and Churchill-Waverley (Endeavour Hills).  All hit off times are 7.30am. If anyone is interested, could they please email me on leigh_simons@hotmail.com and please provide your mobile phone number.  You can also contact David Waters on his email address dnwaters@hotmail.com. Once I have received the expressions of interest, I will divide into the teams based on handicaps.
