100 Year Club and 10 Year Merger Celebration
As we approach two historic milestones, we are delighted to announce preparations are well underway for the 100 Year Club and 10 Year Merger Celebration of Churchill-Waverley Golf & Bowls Club.
Reaching a centenary is quite an achievement. For 100 years, our club has been more than just fairways, greens and bowls rinks – it has been a place of friendship, competition, volunteerism, and community spirit. Ten years ago, the former Churchill Park and Waverley Golf Clubs merged into one. This celebration will honour the people, stories and achievements that have shaped Churchill-Waverley into the club we know and value today.
To help us properly commemorate these occasions, we are seeking your assistance in two important ways.
Memorabilia and Historical Material
We invite both current and former members to contribute memorabilia that reflects our club’s rich history. This may include:
- Photographs (teams, events, clubhouse, course development)
- Trophies
- Old uniforms or equipment
- Newspaper clippings
- Programs, scorecards, or event invitations
- Personal stories or written recollections
If you have items that you are willing to loan (or donate) for display during the centenary celebrations, please contact the club (see below). All care will be taken to record and return items promptly.
100 Significant Members — Call for Nominations
As part of our centenary tribute, we will recognise 100 Significant Members – individuals who have made a meaningful and lasting contribution to Churchill-Waverley and its earlier iterations over the past century.
We invite nominations for members who have demonstrated:
- Long-standing service or volunteer commitment
- Leadership within the club
- Exceptional sporting achievement
- Significant contribution to club development or culture
- Impact on the broader Churchill-Waverley community
Nominations may include past or present members. Please provide a brief outline of the nominee’s contribution and why you believe they should be recognised as one of our 100 Significant Members.
We are not imposing submission deadlines but would appreciate responses as soon as possible to allow the necessary preparations (ideally by the end of March). If submitting by email, please do so to Matthew Taylor via generalmanager@waverleygolfclub.com.au. For physical items, please leave these at the Office at Rowville.
Details of other celebratory events will be communicated in due course.
This centenary and 10-year merger milestone is a celebration of all who have been part of our journey. We encourage every member, past and present, to play a role in ensuring our history is honoured and preserved.
