Board Update # 67 – Strategic Plan 26-29

Dear Members
As mentioned in the January Board Update video, the Club recently engaged external consultants to help guide us through the development of a new Strategic Plan for 2026–2029. I’m pleased to now share this with you.
The decision to undertake this work was an important one. As a Board, we felt it was the right time to step back, take an honest look at where we are today, and define a clear direction for where we want the Club to be in the years ahead. With our centenary year in 2026 and a changing sporting and community landscape around us, having a well-considered plan in place is critical.
Through workshops, analysis and discussion — supported by industry expertise — we developed a plan that reflects both the opportunities in front of us and the challenges we need to address. Most importantly, it captures the aspirations we have for Churchill-Waverley as a modern, sustainable and welcoming sporting precinct.

At its heart, our vision is simple: to be the most welcoming sporting and community precinct in the region. That means more than great golf and bowls — it means creating a place where people feel connected, valued and proud to belong.
Over the next four years, our focus will center on five key areas:
1. Financial Sustainability
2. Course, Facilities and Assets
3. Membership Growth and Retention
4. Membership and Community Engagement
5. Re-zoning and Future Planning
This plan reflects our values of Respect, Pride, Inclusion and Excellence, and provides a framework to guide decision-making and investment across the Club. It acknowledges the financial and operational realities we face, while also positioning us to take advantage of future opportunities.
The goals within this plan are intentionally aspirational — designed to challenge us, stretch our thinking, and guide the Club toward continued improvement.
Importantly, this is not just a Board document — it is our Club’s plan. Delivering on it will rely on the continued support of our members, staff and community. Together, we have the opportunity to build a Club that is financially sustainable, welcoming to all, and recognised for the quality of its facilities and member experience.
The full Strategic Plan is available in the “Club Rules, Policies and Information” section of the members’ area on our website CLICK HERE.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Churchill-Waverley Golf & Bowls Club. I look forward to sharing our progress as we bring this strategy to life.
